Dangers and Safety Tips Associated with Ticks and Lyme Disease
Rhode Island has an extremely high rate of Lyme Disease and Tick Born infections which is why it is paramount that Rhode Island residents of all ages know the dangers and safety tips associated with ticks and Lyme Disease. Jan Cornell, URI Tick Smart Community Educator and speaker for the URI Master Gardener’s Speaker Program will give an overview of the dangers of ticks and their associated diseases and provide useful tips on how to be ‘Tick Smart”. As a Lyme Disease survivor with a personal connection to the dangers of this disease, Jan Cornell spends any and all of her free time educating community members about these topics.
Jan is also a Rhode Island 4-H Community Volunteer, and Today Show Parenting Team Contributor. A former Miss Rhode Island USA and Mrs. Rhode Island International, Jan graduated from Johnson & Wales University ( BS in Marketing Communications), The Bill Gove School of Public Speaking, and Eagle U Leadership University. She currently works in Scientific Sales and previously worked at three of the world’s leading scientific research companies.
The Beechwood Lecture Series is a joint effort of the URI Master Gardeners Program and the RI Wild Plant Society. Master Gardeners receive education credits for attending. The lectures are offered to the public free of charge.
