First Thursday Botanizing Walk: Swan Point Cemetery

September 6 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Swan Point, a 200-acre historic garden cemetery in Providence, was established in 1847 and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. Horticulturalist and greenhouse manager, Kelly Perry, will guide us through the many landscapes of Swan Point, which are still active and developing.

Swan Point is particularly known for its variety of specimen trees, both native and introduced, many of which are Rhode Island Champion Trees.  On our walk we will visit one of these, a more than 200-year-old sassafras with a girth that can be circled by 5 adults.

Meet up location and Parking
Where we park and meet depends entirely on the schedule of events that day.  They will have someone directing us as we arrive. Our meeting place will probably be the parking area they designate.

Below are the normal directions for those traveling on I-195.  RI DOT HOWEVER HAS ISSUED A CONSTRUCTION DETOUR REGARDING GANO STREET, WHICH IS SLATED TO BEGIN ON AUGUST 20.  IT APPEARS THAT IT WILL ONLY AFFECT THOSE TRAVELING WESTBOUND.
Please see their detour map as of August 4.  As we learn of any changes in the detour we will post them here.  We recommend that you check back on their construction/detour website the day of the program.(http://www.dot.ri.gov/travel/detours_construction_maps.php)
