This walk is the second botanizing walk in a two part series Introduction to Plant Communities. These walks focusing on the natural features and plants that characterize particular plant communities. Emphasis will be on common and easily recognized plants. No prior plant knowledge is needed or assumed, though experts are always welcome! Join Brian Maynard, Professor of Horticulture at University of Rhode Island to explore the salt marsh species and see less common plants like Iris prismatica, slender blue iris in this popular preserve in Narragansett.
Meeting location and directions
– Due to the limited parking at the site, we will meet up in the Salt Pond Plaza near the Stop and Shop at 1:45 pm. Directions Salt Pond Plaza and to the specific area where we will meet.
– Note: The Directions have you enter the Plaza from Rt. 108 (Old Port Judith Road). At the first row of parking your turn left and park.
– We will car pool to the spaces that have been reserved for us on Middlebridge Road, thanks to the curtesy of the Town of Narragansett.
– The walk will begin at 2:00 pm.
