Summer Flowers on the Wood River

July 25 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join Denise Poyer, Project Coordinator for the Wood- Pawcatuck Watershed Association, on a delightful summer paddle to look for flowering plants along the beautiful Wood River, a future National Wild and Scenic River. Kayaking is a great way to get into wetlands and explore river banks, where we will see fragrant white water lilies, floating hearts, turtleheads, cardinal flowers, sweet pepperbush and much more.

We will do an easy paddle upstream and back, starting and ending  at the WPWA Campus, 203 Arcadia Road, Hope Valley, RI 02832.  The fee is $10 per person and will benefit both WPWA and RIWPS.  Bring your own boat and life jackets or use one of WPWA’s kayaks for an extra $20.  This is appropriate for beginning paddlers.

Space is limited!  Register at http://wpwa.org/events.php, scroll down to RIWPS and WPWA Summer Flowers on the Wood River.  Contact Denise Poyer denisep@wpwa.org with any questions.

Rain date Thursday, July 26, 2018.

DIRECTIONS TO THE WOOD-PAWCATUCK WATERSHED ASSOCIATION

FROM NORTH OR SOUTH: Take Rt. 95 North or South to EXIT 3B (Hope Valley, Wyoming).  This will put you on Rt. 138 West.  Follow Rt. 138 West to the first stop light.  This is a 3-way traffic light, the Wood River Inn and the Stagecoach House are on the corners.  Take a right at the light onto Rt. 3 North.  Follow this past the State Police Barracks and take your first left onto Skunk Hill Road.  Follow Skunk Hill Road to the Stop Sign and take a right onto Arcadia Road (no sign). Stay on Arcadia for about a mile to 203 Arcadia Road.  The Wood-Pawcatuck Watershed Association will be on your left, just before a bridge near a dam.  Park in back of the second building.

ALTERNATIVE FROM SOUTH: Take Rt. 3 North to Hope Valley.  You will come to a blinking yellow light.  Rt. 138 West splits to the left.  West’s Bakery is on the corner.  Continue just a little further on Rt. 3 to a fork in the road.  Hope Valley Antiques, a red brick building, is in the middle of the fork.  Take a left onto Bank Street.  Continue to the next fork and take a left onto Arcadia Road.  Stay on Arcadia for about a mile to 203 Arcadia Road.  The Wood-Pawcatuck Watershed Association will be on your left, just before a bridge near a dam.

FROM EAST (URI):  Take Rt. 138 West until it goes under the Rt. 95 overpass in Richmond, just past the Stop & Shop plaza on your right, and follow the directions above.

IF YOU ARE USING GPS BE SURE TO PUT THE TOWN AS HOPKINTON OR HOPE VALLEY!  Arcadia Road runs through three towns and left on its own, GPS will take you to the wrong town.
