DUE TO THE PREDICTED RAIN TOMORROW MORNING, THE TIME OF THIS WALK HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM 10-11:30 AM TO 12:30 TO 2 PM.
Arcadia Management Area, located in south Rhode Island, is the state’s largest recreation area with over 14,000 acres. On this guided nature walk, we will explore about 1 mile of the Browning Mill Pond trail. We’ll identify plants, trees, insects and birds. Bring your binoculars and maybe we will be lucky enough to see a pileated woodpecker! Depending on the group’s interest, we can share our knowledge on such topics as pollination, the food chain, soils, etc. This walk will be repeated on Saturday, October 1.
Walks are suitable for children K thru 6th grade. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Browning Mill Pond is a part of State Management area. During hunting season (the second Saturday in September to the last day of February and the third Saturday in April to the last day in May) hikers are required to wear 200 square inches of solid daylight fluorescent orange. Typically a hat is 200 square inches.
Bring water and snacks and be sure to use restrooms before your arrival as there are minimal facilities at this location. Long sleeved shirts, long pants, and socks are recommended for tick and other insect protection. Sturdy shoes are recommended as well as this trail is uneven and has rocks and many tree routes
