Meadow by the Bay
Saturday, July 15, 2023 – 10 am to 12 pm. (Rain date: Sunday, July 16, same time.)
Warwick, RI
Completed in 2009, Judy and Jonathan Knight’s contemporary house sits on a small bluff with sweeping views of Narragansett Bay. A meadow of native wildflowers and plants covers three-quarters of the one-acre property, and meandering pathways encourage a closer look at the plants. Garden beds created within the meadow and bordering the property provide space for selected wildflowers to establish while goldenrod, lupine, monarda, and milkweed provide seasonal color within the meadow. Two rain gardens in the meadow were created to filter rainwater from the roof enroute to Narragansett Bay and are home to natives such as sweet fern, inkberry and low bush blueberry.
A more formal landscape behind the house includes sweetspire, fothergilla, chokeberry, summersweet, viburnum, and other New England natives. A built stream cascades down rock ledges following the natural slope of the land.
The number of RIWPS member visitors is limited to 25.
