Rain or Shine
Kick off the First Thursday walk season with forester Paul Dolan at Powder Mill Ledges, one of sixteen public wildlife refuges owned by The Audubon Society of Rhode Island and home to Society headquarters. This will be an easy to slightly moderate hike with a bit of slope and some muddy areas.
An oasis in a built-up area, the refuge features many transitional habitats, with remnants of abandoned apple orchards, red maples, big-toothed aspen, old “wolf” trees and a variety of oaks and pines. Since it will be early spring, we will be doing some winter tree and shrub identification as well as investigating vernal pool habitat.
This walk is a part of our First Thursday Botanizing Walk Series. See our Botanizing Walks home page for important details about these walks.
