Nicholas Farm Management Area Nicholas Farm covers a total land area of 1429 acres. The area is dominated by forest cover consisting of deciduous forest (688 acres) and evergreen forest (369 acres). Much of the conifer cover is pitch pine forest as a result of the dry soils which occur throughout the area. Wetlands (306 acres), agricultural fields (forty-one acres), and other areas (twenty-two acres) cover the balance of the area.
We will head in the direction of Pitch pine/scrub oak habitat, Moosup River, Roaring Brook, and a small sphagnum bog. Recent prescribed burn has occurred in areas we will explore. Wild honeysuckle blooming, one-cone clubmoss, climbing fern, dwarf chestnut-oak, pitch plants will be on our list. In the other direction is a beaver pond and habitats they created. (1.2 miles each way to the climbing fern.) There are views along the high bluffs of the Moosup.
