Go Wild about Native Plants – Potluck Luncheon (for members) Postponed

DUE TO THE MOST RECENT COVID CONDITIONS, THIS EVENT IS POSTPONED UNTIL A DATE LATER IN 2022. 

Join us for a Potluck Luncheon. Let’s enjoy spending time with fellow native plant enthusiasts.  Brian Maynard, long time RIWPS member and URI professor, Department of Plant Sciences and Entomology, will also be sharing his perspectives in a presentation entitled Moss be a Lichen: Appreciating Small Green Things.

In addition to RIWPS caps and our coloring books, A Walk Through the Seasons with Rhode Island Wild Plants, we will be offering clamshell winter seed sowing kits. Each kit is a clamshell container with holes poked into the top and bottom, filled with a seed starter medium and a packet of seeds with planting directions and labels. We will have 20 available for a cost of $5.00 each.  There will be five kits of one of four different types of seed: butterfly milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa), swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata), foxglove beardtongue (Penstemon digitalis), and cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis).   flower). 

 Space is limited so an RSVP is required.  Out of an abundance of caution, we are asking that all participants have up to date covid vaccinations and wear masks except for when eating.

Moss Workshop (2 days) Cancelled

Learn about mosses in during this two day workshop by Brian Maynard, Professor of Horticulture at University of Rhode Island.  The first session will be held in the  Biochemical Building at the URI Campus on June 15 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.  It will include a mosses lecture and the opportunity to examine a of sample mosses using hand lenses. During the second session on June 16, also from 1:00pm to 4:00 pm we will walk in the neighboring North woods to collect and ID mosses and to bring specimens back to examine under dissecting microscope. 

 

This workshop is limited to 24 people.  Pre registration is required.

Fee: $30.00; $25.00 for members
