A human generation is 25 to 30 years. What is a generation for an organization? It can be said that after 38 years, RIWPS is in its second generation, and we’re making the bold move to invest in a big dream for the next generation of our Seed Starters program.
For the last 15 years, The Rhode Island Wild Plant Society’s (RIWPS) Seed Starters West (SSW) has benefited from the incredible generosity of the Pezza family, who have graciously provided the use of their greenhouse, shed and shade house in Exeter. We have loved our time at Pine Grove Farm and look forward to a new and exciting chapter for SSW.
SSW is moving to a new location where we will build a new hoop house and shed modeled after the successful setup of Seed Starters East (SSE) with:
- A 1,800 square foot cold frame hoop house
- A 300 square foot workspace and shed
The new location will serve as a multi-purpose site for:
- Seed grown native plants, including many local ecotypes, all free of pesticides and neonicotinoids,
- Weather protection for supplies and volunteers, and
- Work sessions and ReSeeding Rhode Island activities.
