The Rhode Island Plant Insect Community Network
As the world’s ecology is networked, so should our efforts to conserve it!
A new initiative by the Rhode Island Natural History, Rhode Island Plant Insect Community Network, is creating a community of mutual support through bringing together diverse projects across the state that focus on our plants and insects.
The initiative was introduced at the annual Lisa Lofland Gould Program, an event sponsored by URI Master Gardener Program, Rhode Island Natural History Survey and Rhode Island Natural History Survey. The Ecology Club at Rhode Island College hosted the program on November 23. Ocean Hour Farm gave the keynote talk followed by rapid fire presentations of a number of the member organizations including RIWPS’ ReSeeding RI initiative. Interactions and networking were certainly achieved!
RIWPS thanks those who purchased some of ReSeeding RI’s first progeny seeds from wild plant populations. Time to start reseeding RI with these ecotypic seeds to preserve our native plants and to populate our landscapes with plants genetically suited to support interactions that sustain them and the insects and pollinators that depend on them.
